Public Meeting: Impact of High Speed Rail on San Mateo County

LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS NORTH & CENTRAL SAN MATEO COUNTY Invites you to attend a public meeting “Impact of High Speed Rail on San Mateo County”
March 16 – 7 – 9 p.m.
Chetcuti Room, Library Plaza, Millbrae
Speakers:

Bethany Williams, Public Involvement Manager for HNTB, the consulting engineering firm charged with preparing for the EIR and public involvement for CHSRA
Terry Nagel, Vice Mayor, City of Burlingame, Alternate Representative to Peninsula Cities Consortium (PCC)
Nadia Naik, Co-Founder, Californians Advocating Responsible Rail Design (CARRD)

High speed rail – prop 1A – passed by voters in November 2008 authorized $9 billion to build a high speed train between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Both CARRD and PCC are working to raise public awareness on upcoming deadlines, requiring public comment. The League of Women Voters of North & Central San Mateo County covers several cities along the route of the proposed high speed rail.

This is the single largest, most complex and expensive infrastructure project in the history of the Peninsula, and our state. It will impact neighborhoods, business districts, historic and natural areas. The implications of this project require that voters pay close attention to this issue.

The Authority follows the legal environmental review process, which requires them to solicit and incorporate public comment. Anyone can comment, and all comments are considered equally, whether they are from a private citizen, a city or a state agency. Under the law, if you do not comment, it means that you agree with all the details in the plan to date. If you do not comment, you give up your right to challenge the final conclusion.

Think about what is important for your neighborhoods, what you value in your communities and make sure the Authority receives it in writing to be part of the official record. This is a critical time for public input. Please forward this invitation to friends, neighbors and associates.
