There are four committees in the California state legislature with explicit oversight responsibilities for the California High Speed Rail Authority.
In the Assembly (California’s equivalent of the House of Representatives):
1 Budget Subcommittee 3 on Resources and Transportation – currently chaired by Richard Bloom (D-50)
California has a fiscal year that ends on June 30th. The governor’s office releases a proposed budget for the following fiscal year in January, a revision of that budget in May and the legislature (hopefully) adopts a budget before the end of June. This committee will typically look at the budget for each transportation-related department during that period. They will be hosting their first hearing tomorrow January 27th, 2016 in Sacramento. It is open to the public, here is the agenda/information memo and here is the letter the legislative peer review group submitted in advance of Chair Lou Thompson’s testimony.
2 Transportation Committee – currently chaired by Jim Frazier (D-10)
We have no word on the next hearing – but will update this when we get word.
In the State Senate:
3 Budget Subcommittee 2 on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy and Transportation – currently chaired by Lois Wolk (D-3)
No word yet on when hearings will happen.
4 Transportation Committee – currently chaired by Jim Beall (D-15)
The LA Times reported that Senator Beall will hold hearings but there is no date so far.
